Tangerine Skies

"How beautifully leaves grow old.
How full of light and color are their last days."
~John Burroughs

A Sonnet

Oh, what a beautiful autumn morning!

The air is crisp; the heavens tangerine

With the sun behind a cumulus screen;

A scene, fleeting but simply amazing!

Soon clouds depart; the sun’ll be shining

Farewell to a beauty softly serene

But instead radiant rays warming the skin

Azure skies; bees buzz as hummingbirds sing!

A spectacle in multi-hued splendor

Vivid evergreens, with fall’s red and gold;

White clouds kissing pale blue hills so tender

Bales of hay, burnt sienna, recently roll’d

In amber fields undulating yonder

Just harvested; magical to behold!

During the equinox, the Sun crosses what we call the “celestial equator”—an imaginary extension of Earth’s equator line into space. The equinox occurs precisely when the Sun’s center passes through this line. When the Sun crosses the equator from north to south, this marks the autumnal equinox; when it crosses from south to north, this marks the vernal or spring equinox. Tomorrow 09/22/2020 is this year's autumnal equinox.
