The Quest

A Tale of the Argonauts

Adventures await not the faint of heart
Grit and courage set the champions apart

Search for truth the province of the brave!
Whether you be royalty, knight or knave

In the valiant quest for the golden fleece
Brethren we are; kinship will never cease

Bonds of brotherhood forged in scorching flames
Of the crucible etched with all our names

Thus, honor-bound by experiences shared
Ready for adventures, armed and prepared

For the Argo’s shipshape, eager to sail
Our eyes looking out, mindful of the gale

The gray ocean’s rough; the mighty waves high
Incipient storm in the sullen sky

A band of brothers against stormy seas
Courage in our hearts; fire in our bellies

Trials, misfortunes; endure if we must
The fleece we seek; our search for truth is just

With grit and fortitude, we shall prevail
We’ll bask in sunshine, to ourselves all hail!

Jason is my favorite hero in Greek mythology. Above poem - I imagine he gave this speech before the Argonauts set sail on the Argo to search for the golden fleece.

I wrote the poem in an old form of poetry called the heroic couplet. A heroic couplet is a traditional form for English poetry, commonly used in epic and narrative poetry, and consisting of a rhyming pair of lines in iambic pentameter.
