Daydreamer

"Hold fast to dreams, for if dreams die, life is a broken-winged bird that cannot fly."
- Langston Hughes

His eyes drift softly, lost in a daydream,
Fixed on the distant line of horizon
The noise around him fades like a faint scream;
His focus captured by the boundless ocean

But then a sudden movement stirred behind
And roused him from his gentle reverie
He turned to find the lady from his mind
A vision fair as anyone could see

The past few days have been unforgiving
Life’s heavy trials weighing his heart down
But seeing her today feels like clear healing
Her smile transforms his weary, pensive frown

He rose, quickly made his way toward her
The joy within him could not be denied
The sadness he once felt now just a blur
As happiness walks closely by his side

She touched his cheek, and he began to melt
He closed his eyes, immersed in ecstasy
It seemed his heart was fuller than he’d felt
At last, he knew she was his destiny

Alas! He opened his eyes—she was gone,
A wisp of mist, fading to empty air
He found himself alone beside the dawn,
His sadness swelling, more than he could bear

Though only part of his own reverie,
A vision woven from his heart’s desire,
She left a spark, a warmth, a memory—
A fleeting joy that set his soul afire

In troubled times, she’d always reappear,
A guiding light to chase his fears away
Her presence soothed the weight of every tear,
And turned his darkest nights to brighter days
