Silver Eye

"We are all like the bright Moon; we still have our darker side."
Khalil Gibran
"With freedom, books, flowers, and the Moon, who could not be happy?"
Oscar Wilde

Blazing hot as the sun reached its zenith
Hostile, desertlike in the sunbaked heath
But thick leaden clouds floating from the east
Tempering the blistering heat at least

A stiff breeze blew when it was most needed
And the sun behind the clouds retreated
From denizens a loud cry, hosanna
Although the relief, short of nirvana

A murmuration of starlings appeared
Darkening the skies as if night has neared
First few raindrops, then turbulent torrents
Earth braced for a flood with no deterrence

Petrichor rose from the rain-starved terrain
As the thirsty roots revived from drought’s reign
Its earthy scent quite invigorating
Air renewed with life, rejuvenating

The rain ceased after a couple of hours
Gray clouds departed, the sun still glowers
But the day’s intense heat dissipated
And the humidity has abated

Soon the golden orb starts its slow descent
The sky ablaze with hues that won’t relent
Purple, golden, crimson and various shades
Blend softly as the blinding daylight fades

As the sun disappears behind the hills
The night promises pleasant visual thrills
With stars that twinkle in the velvet sky
The moon ascends, a silver eye on high
