Siblings

“They say that no matter how old you become, when you are with your siblings, you revert back to childhood.”
— Karen White
“Siblings: children of the same parents, each of whom is perfectly normal until they get together.”
– Sam Levenson

We grew in a traditional household
Where misbehaving is not an option
Discipline and stern rules we must uphold
But love always an expressed emotion

Six sons six daughters a dozen in all
Our oldest one twenty five years older
Than the youngest sibling in the corral
Two generations, our get-together

Yet warmth, fellowship and intimacy
Exist between the older and the young
Surrogate parents when needed to be
And yes, their sacrifices been unsung

Regrettably four of us crossed beyond
Eight are left, enjoying our twilight years
Those years we’d bring back with a magic wand
For our young years had smiles and happy tears

Today, only remembrances remain
They brighten the hours when we’re together
Oh! to enjoy those  carefree days again
Fortunes we’d give, those days to recover

But there are no reruns, nor rehearsals
Our present, our todays will stay as is
Our pasts are final, and no reversals
The days gone by! they’ll but be memories

Alas! We’re scattered all over the world
Tis dusk, minutes and seconds are numbered
But we’ll do the best as the days unfold
Pray sad days by happy ones outnumbered!
