Nocturne in C Minor

“The very first moment I beheld him, my heart was irrevocably gone.”
– Jane Austen
“When I saw you, I fell in love and you smiled because you knew.”
– William Shakespeare
“Who ever lov'd, that lov'd not at first sight?”
- Christopher Marlowe,
Hero and Leander

He set his phone to play themes classical
Sat and bent down to tie his shoe laces
All set for a run around the oval

A Chopin nocturne plays on his earpiece
When he saw her across the avenue
Pitter patter his heartbeats almost cease

As the girl of his dreams came into view
Awestruck, beauty such as hers does exist
He knows his life from then will be askew

While at the crosswalk, the green light he missed
He waited much longer than a minute
But when he looked, she’s vanished like the mist

The lights turned green, he raced across the street
To his right, praying she had gone that way
He knew right then he can’t afford to quit

Run, walk; he looked left through an alleyway
But she’s not there; she’s nowhere to be seen
Getting anxious; the skies suddenly gray

Heart pumping, a rush of adrenaline
At last he saw her, hundred yards ahead
He started walking fast, well-oiled machine

And he caught up to her; spent, exhausted
But now what? What can he do to meet her?
She turned around, saw his face distorted

She laughed, gave him the biggest smile ever
His earpiece dropped, yet music he still hears
Right then he thought he could live forever

The rest’s hist’ry and after many years
Nocturne in C Minor plays  in his ears!
