We’re called to be intercessors
For others with sins unconfessed
That their supplications yet unspoken
Can be heard; and their souls blessed
Abraham prayed for Sodom’s deliverance
Several times with God he bargained
That the city be saved from brimstone.
God listened; several reprieves he obtained!
Alas! Sodom perished in the end
But Abraham’s love for others remained
The living Word is rich with devout men
Who entreated with God for others’ sake
Samuel begged Him to forgive Saul’s sins
Moses sought pardon for the nation’s mistake
David, Daniel, Hezekiah – all intercessors
For because of man's iniquity, their hearts break
Like them, we are to intercede for others
We must pray for our fellow men
That they may be saved from damnation
And with the Spirit’s help be born again
When we intercede for others, and pray
That their needs be fulfilled above our own
Christ-like we become; as in Calvary He died
To welcome us to His heavenly throne!
Yes, we are called to be intercessors
For in God’s kingdom we are not alone
