A serpent moves with painted grace
Its gilded scales in sunlight gleam
Yet venom pools in dark embrace
A silent threat beneath the sheen—
Its tongue may flick with charm’s embrace
Or strike and shatter what has been
Likewise we walk, both foul and fair
With kindness bright, yet shadows deep
A spark to heal, a blade laid bare
A whispered vow we fail to keep—
What hides within, both foul and rare
Is ours to master or to weep
We shed our skin, yet still remain
A shifting form of dark and light
Our hands can heal, our hands can maim
Yet which we choose is ours by right—
A golden mask may hide a stain
But truth will gleam beyond the bite
The serpent crawls a fated path
Its course is set, it knows no choice
Yet we may rise beyond the wrath
Redeemed by faith, restored by voice—
The guiding hand, both firm and vast
Can lead us where angels rejoice

The poem explores the duality of human nature—how both good and evil reside within us, much like the venomous snake that is both beautiful and deadly. However, while the snake is bound by its instincts, humans have the capacity to choose between darkness and light. With the right choice, faith and divine guidance, unlike the snake we can attain redemption.
