The Story of Maui
Island paradise in the blue ocean
Blessed with benign winds and balmy climate
Few clouds, skies blue to the far horizon
Sandy beaches white, surf waves never late
Yes, thousands of people came every year
To enjoy the island’s myriad treasures
The beaches, the sunset, refreshing air
Beauty unsurpassed beyond all measures
But one fateful summer day cruel winds came
From a typhoon hundreds of miles away
Ruthlessly setting paradise aflame
Torching Eden, all that’s left black and gray
A lovely vibrant town burnt to the ground
The fire-breathing dragon devoured the land
The wind whipped up the flames, a frightful sound
Many folks caught unawares where they stand
The flames roared and bellowed; a hellish hound
In the inferno, loud cries of the damned
Sadly, lives have been lost in Paradise
And fortunes have disappeared in a flash
Eden to Gehenna, not a surprise
But surely Phoenix will rise from the ash!
It will take a while, perhaps many years
Gehenna will be Eden once again
The painful memories won’t disappear
Paradise restored, fervent hopes remain
Better than it ever was! Have no fear
Its beauty and grandeur bound to deepen!
