Still Waters

“The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters. He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness For His name’s sake.”
Psalms 23:1-3 NKJV

When shadows fall, he contemplates the end
The weight of life too heavy to withstand
Each step he takes he feels his will may bend
As hardships rise like waves upon the sand

Through years of silence, struggles took their hold
The seeds of doubt were planted early on
He built a wall to hide emotions bold
A mask to face the world when hope was gone

In dreams, he sought escape from daily pain
A world of heroes, far from loss and strife
But now that world is gone; the door in vain
Remains shut tight, removed from present life

Yet in his solitude, the Comforter
A gentle guide walks softly by his side
Though once alone, he feels His presence stir
A peace that stays no longer will he hide

He leads him on to waters, calm and still
Where quiet flows restore his troubled mind
The burdens of his past no longer fill
His heart with fear for strength, is now aligned

The battles that remain no longer crush
For peace has settled deep within his core
In silent moments, hope returns to hush
The storms within; and fear is felt no more

Beside still waters now he walks at ease
A path of solace steady in its course
He trusts the Comforter to grant him peace
And guides his steps with love, his gentle force!

I wrote this poem over ten years ago, August 2014. My life circumstances were much different at that time. Hence the tone of this poem may be very different from my more recent work. I found this poem in a computer file folder and made modifications. Frankly, some of the phrases I was using gave me the heebie jeebies.
