Angry Bird

Ode to the Self-Righteous
A Satirical View of Ourselves

We’re the last persons we find at fault
That’s a fact; perhaps just human nature
The other parties are always in the wrong
For we’re blameless and innocent and pure

Often, we’re in a pedestal others don’t see
In a more sanguine version of reality
We wear alternate truth, a lily-white suit
For we’re upright, noble and error-free!

The times we view ourselves in the mirror
We envision a glamorous telegenic image
For we are wearing rose-tinted lenses
We see a peacock with resplendent plumage

All will be well if we lived in a cocoon
But on planet earth a billion other souls
We don’t have a bubble all around us
Interaction with others, one of our goals

Sadly, others perceive us for what we are
That’s when friction and conflicts arise
We’re unwilling to accept we’re full of warts
Afraid we’d be diminished in our own eyes!

Facing the world with a puritanical scowl
Against all, we’re an angry bird at war!
For we’re blameless and innocent and pure
Furious, we raise our voices to deafening roar
