Why such sorrow when told words so wonderful?
Words so wonderful; never tired to accept
Words for which a time is never wrong
Words intensified from the child nurtured
Words unprovoked; perfectly received
Words often accompanied by an embrace

But not this time

Words delivered electronically
Words read with longing
Words from a place miles away
Words from your child
Words affirming his love
For his daddy
Before I affirm mine

I cannot think of a title that offers just enough. Any suggestions? My muse for this piece was when I received an unsolicited "I love you" text from my son who is a college freshman in Los Angeles. I live in NY. As uplifting as it was, I missed him more than ever.
