WINTER

The earth is a woolen fabric.
Tawny and umber
The trees are lace. Gray and black.

The crystalline sky is clear,
And silver as glass.
Cold, sharp, crisp.

And it could be imagined that the sky
Would shatter
Like a shining mirror

If they could but reach up and strike it.
