KOKOPELLI

Kokopelli, Kokopelli, far-off calling,
Silver notes like star-shine falling,
Warm as honey, warm as semen, midnight streaming
Silver strands into her dreaming.

Hard-lived in days of turquoise skies,
Betrayed in nights of coyote lies,
Hollow notes pulling sweet surprise
From emptied jars of paradise.

Hump-back player, hump-back player, liquid pouring
Into earth, asleep, adoring,
Open as noon, open as wind, copper-ringing
Her earthen bell, aching, singing,

Kokopelli, Kokopelli, softly calling,
Silver notes like laughter falling,
Hollow as shell, hollow as hell, midnight gaping
Silver-hung, her soul lies waiting!
