Copper Penny

I don’t remember writing this

A penny for your thoughts
A dollar for my dreams
A place to lay my head
A wake, I never dream

Admire shiny things
A stem, a straw, some cream.
So the rusted penny slipped away
Because I loved other things.

A penny for my time
A dollar to pick your mind
A race, this place, I never knew
And I’m falling far behind

Don’t quit she says
As she empty’s out her pockets
3 qtrs, a xan, a Pepsi can, and a
Boston harbor locket.

Remember I used to drive
Every single night
Another persons car
Living another persons life

With another persons girl
And a different face to shine
A lighted spot, the darkest rot
On this heart of mine

But really I took a chance
Never learned how to dance
Although we tried, my tounge is tied
Because the devil had a plan

A penny for the fears
A dollar for the beer
To drown away the thoughts that stay
I better disapear

It’s raining now, move quickly
I’m walking for some whiskey
Cause If i don’t this lump in my throat
Will bubble up and kill me

She’s a copper penny
One I’ll always keep right with me
She shines like no other, even when I rust her
But I’ve lost this fight, shit was tight
But it’s all the strength I can muster
