Toward the Light

Toward the Light

Mother Nature and I together
She is soft and light as a feather
I am clumsy and afraid of the dark
If I fall I’ll be missing my mark

She sleeps in the dark ‘til morning’s coming
Awakened by the sound of reveille’s drumming
I stay in the dark forever dreaming
Of when I can see the light in its gleaming

Nature forever climbs up to the light
I need faith and books to take flight
How I wish my life was that easy
Like zephyrs blowing free and breezy

The light of truth I find through reason
Nature’s way comes through every season
But all of us move up to the light
Some have to scrape and some have to fight
But in the end, don’t we both need the light?
