Blessing of the Young Couple Before Marriage, by Pascal Dagnan-Bouveret

The Wedding

The Wedding

Hallowed be the fragile space that dwells between man and wife.  It is God’s blessing that holds the wisdom of all creation.  It is a flame that ignites a lover’s kiss. It is beauty that struggles to maintain its holy face.  If it is a bird with broken wings, it shall be  mended so it can fly again.  When it becomes silent and void, it is a sacred chasm free of all slander, purified by abstinence, and fortified by love.  It is the same air, spiteful or kind, that man and wife breathe together.  Like the water that is pulled from the sea to the skies, it never disappears, but falls to the sea again.  That sacred space where love reigns is free of all insolence, which only thrives with the desire to be together in mutual assent, free to live by God’s grace.
