The Mortification

Stately mansions not enough for milady;
Inside her soul, the shining’s a bit shady.

The pain inside grows ever stronger.
Her plastic smiles can’t last any longer.

The happy married life is losing its appeal.
Not enough time for the pain to heal.

Mortification resides in the fragile soul,
Knocking down walls to gain control.

The hell inside is set to get out,
To break loose and run and shout.

Love is for lovers to run with the beast
In the pits of Sodom, Hellfire Priest.

Through reckless legs of steamy virgins,
Erotic sounds of throbbing violins,

Red hot pokers penetrate the skin
Leaving a scar where Satan’s been.

Too late milady to patch up what’s there.
Everyone has gone away and doesn’t care.

Good-by you with your dark, decadent heart.
Find another family to try and pull apart.

The movie, "I Smile Back" gave me the inspiration to write this poem.
