The Arnolfini Wedding, by Jean van Eyck
Robert L. Martin

Sympathy

Sympathy

Pain is a story of
Its own private hell
The Devil’s own drama
Has too much to tell

Sympathy reaches out
With its arms too short
Pain is always miles away
Another shore another port

Zephyrs whisper grieving words
To a soul lost at sea
Sympathy is but a memory
As sadness comes to be

Sadness can’t unite its feeling
It can only read up on pain
Sympathy can only cry
For life for thee I feign
