Liberty Leading the People, by Eugène Delacroix

Spirit Engines

Pistons cranking in the chasms of the soul
spirits in contention for supreme control
churning in the hearts of the hot-blooded warriors
battle songs from the mouths of the infernal whores

engines steaming ahead at supersonic speeds
as combatants mount their spirited steeds
brandishing their swords to follow their command
from the commanders of the highest fatherland

to gain control is the thought on their minds
spreading the heat as the battle climbs
a stronghold gained in a smoldering fortress
the beast has landed and morality suppressed

or morality cranking at the speed of light
to see the dismantling in the devil’s blight
his armies retreating and his voices waning
his laughter muffled and his temper flaming

his feet unsteady in the shifting sand
and his supremacy weakening in all the land
as he falls to the ground to never rise up again
from the churning of the holiest spirit engine

the common man at war with the two spirits
finding his place among his favorites
to let his pleasure choose the one for him
or the righteous one from the divinity within.

And the eternal battle of good and evil forever rages
