Scarlet Embers

Fires of the dawn and scarlet embers
dancing on the clouds as morning splendors
effervescent skyscapes for poetic eyes
black and scarlet in the higher skies

from fires rising from the earthen rooms
through dark corridors and cryptic tombs
up through the cracks in the punctured ground
and the inconsistent hills scattered all around

morning galleries coming into view
and scarlet embers and pink clouds too
and trumpets sounding the dawn of the day
playing reveille as the embers fade away

behold a new day as an ever-changing gallery
as the sun stays afloat and then grows weary
and crimson colored skies are all around
as eventide comes to pull it back down

then the journey through the bowels of the earth
running through caves and waterways in mirth
then opening the tombs to go to sleep
until time to rise and to the skies to greet
then the changing again as it ever wanders
to scorch the clouds with scarlet embers
