The Highland Shepherd, by Rosa Bonheur
Robert L. Martin

Pride of the Laborer

Work hard young man and young lady.
Go to the vineyards for the grapes are ready.
The time is now to harvest which you’ve sown.
Toil in the field until it’s time to go home.

Pride in your work makes labor so much fun.
Your wages are minor, your dignity number one.
Work hard and feel the love guide you along,
for labor is a good deed and a joyful song.
As you bind yourself with other lovers of labor,
you feel the grace of God and do yourself a favor.
For hard work is grueling and all so menacing;
so approach it with love and a song to sing.
