Melodic Puppeteers

Puppeteers with supreme authority
but humble servants under God’s command,
with soft hands but superior strength,
manipulating the strings of human action
in complete control of their
moods and movement,
dictating melodies that surge
out of lyrical hideaways,
are able to control human
thoughts and deeds.

They shoot out music from their volcanic selves
that runs inside of man with flaming torches
to ignite the fires that control his senses,
sending him into a trance and reverie,
taking his identity away from him
and putting a new one inside his heart,
driving him into a delirious rage,
but a lilting rage that floats with the music
in response to a simple melody
that climbs inside and dictates
what his response is supposed to be,
like puppeteers do when they
control their puppets.

An ode to the power of music and what it does,
an ode to puppeteers and what they do,
to the power that they have over mankind,
to conservative man who loses control of himself,
and to a simple melody that fires up his senses.
