Life After Debussy

Life After Debussy

Life after Debussy “is” life
When the music began to breathe
With its colors and shapes upon
Being resurrected from dark tombs
When music was a lifeless
Series of dexterous passages
Between chords of yesteryear
Accompanying outdated dances

Like a dreamy maiden of pale skin
She seeks out the
Most colorful make-up
Music was that skin
And Debussy was that make-up

The passionate were energized
The lifeless were perplexed
But the music was resurrected
Like the seed hidden beneath the snow
That dreams of its ascension to the sun
Debussy was that heroic warmth
That messenger of life
