From Seed to Fruit

Early awakenings in orchard home,
Morning stretching in a satiny loam,
Winter’s heart softening up ahead,
Pumping blood and life instead,
The rite of spring of the glory days,
A bursting out into the morning haze,

Orchards in worship of the midday sun,
Singing psalms unto the meadow’s hum,
Naked branches filling up with blossom
On the bright side of nature’s pendulum,
The blood of life on its yearly pilgrimage,
Up the side of the wooded grade
To the fruited summit for the ripening at last.

This poem was written for the "Belt and Beyond."
