A Soldier’s Creed

Ready as can be by day or by night,
In the heat of the battle I claw and fight.
With fire in my arsenal to get me through,
I fight with all my strength and courage endued
Until the white wings of death come to my door,
Then fighting must I quit when I can no more.

‘Tis the creed of all soldiers that we are,
To fight the good battle for you so afar.
Though I don’t know you or your name,
I die for the cause and for you just the same.
Just remember me on this one day in May
As you look upon me in the grave I lay.
Do this in remembrance of me.
