Humankind

Beautiful and pristine were the evergreens,
Ferns, canes and mighty trees danced with pride and crooned,
Owner’s of this land; they stood proud and tall
Never once they asked, they only gave on & on,
Then came these two legged beings, with so called, 'brains’!
We plundered, axed, looted, tunneled through these lands,
First we made roads to connect us all,
Soon we decided the road was not wide enough for us all,
So we bought mighty dynamite, chainsaws and cranes,
We went on a murderous plunder and rampage,
Not caring for the ancient trees, creepers and lands,
Turning a blind eye to the tiny nest and it’s eggs,
We trampled all the mushrooms and anthills of lore,
For we wanted to be 'developed’ and connected to all,
We destroyed the real connection which binds us all.
Now lay the trees fallen on the floor, the eggs are broken, birds weeping and lost,
The earth is bare and red, she looks like she is bleeding sorrow,
The mushrooms and the million creatures  trampled and orphaned,
We still go about on our bloody rampage!
We are 'humankind’!!
What happened to our kindness and humane side of old.
