Philippines the beautiful
seven thousand pearls Eden in the
Philippines Sea
seven thousand smiles in the sky arching
rainbow like
always there sunrise to sunset from
Batanes to Tawi-Tawi
seven thousand islands strong you are
a country diverse in character but one in
the pursuit of happiness
natural resources rich proud steadfast throughout history
yet state of reality the saddest news a
picture of poverty
back years ago... your undernourished
people
poorest poor families digging sustenance
from the landfill... taking comfort from it
seared in our minds the down in
the dumps images
heartbreaking... an understatement
but you are an indomitable country...
a beautiful land the envy of other nations
come what may... all the natural disasters
the plundering of your wealth by your
leaders
the raping of your Christian values... your
trust in mankind
the blatant betrayals of your chosen
officials
defy any rational thoughts of your
acceptance
accept endure pliant silent taking it all in
seem forgiving you are hoping ever for the
good
wishful unafraid somehow that no matter
what
there is goodness in mankind... in your heart you believe
a wanting of a thing missing could be
had you felt at all times
with a Zeus hope you let the unscrupulous
lead you again... and again...”bahala na”
sad as I am I can never cry for you
Philippines
you are incredibly strong a forgiving
country to a fault
hospitable in character praised in the world
unique carried since millennia undoubtedly
the man on the moon smile on your face
betrays a proud happy alive caring people
grateful and proud to be your son my
Fatherland
merrily you row the boat to where the river
flows...
far into inlets of diasporas giving help
worldwide
nobody’s bailing out nor keeping their
distance
as sad as the landfill provisions are... warts
and all
we stand by you... our beloved home
Philippines the beautiful

9meThank you Brod for writing this poem. It is in marked contrast to the poem I wrote two years ago which was a pessimistic outlook for the country. What’s the saying again - twice burned?? Anyway, differences notwithstanding I like your poem. 👍👍👍

9meSo sad but true.

9meI love your poem on Phil independence not in hunger. Many Filipino Americans in diaspora.. believe that real rights in the property are being taken over by the inVaders.. i.e. some sons of Catanduanes provincial island who have migrated here too were saying that real estate land properties are now being bought left right front back & center! My brother in law whose family sold their sizable portfolio in Cagayan and also Tuguegarao to agents woke up their properties were in the Hands of in-Vaders "sleepers" too! Mindanaoans are waking up theirs are in the wrong hands! Who on their own Right Time their in-Vaders would be Out-Vaders!!! My

9me... take is, I'm taking this Phil visit for the last time! What i said in my first paragraph is incomplete. Thus, to complete (I could not insert the proper words ... independence yes in words but not from hunger... not from usurper, not from inVaders who'd be the Out-Vaders !!! From the North of Luzon to South of Mindanao & the Center of Bicol & Visayas just like sleeping viruses taking over the body "sleeping in the panciteria" at some signal on the 1st ICBM or a plethora or fleets of ships and thousands of jets towards Formosa or just a click of thumb & middle finger these viral organisms should be Out There like no other. Also, you know the "Artificial Islands" there's no truth to that they re out Artificial Intelligence ..they are real soil & rocks from Zambales !!! Barged from there as overburden from "chromate mining" kuno from where the Cabarruses formerly Acoje last done their stripping of the last grain of Chromite!!! It's All a Ruse!! ... all I can say, is the Artificial Islands are still of Philippine Territory as the soil & rocks are Phil sorts! Wake up wake up not the viral inVaders, Warning! Warning! also to our "Sleepers in our Panciteria!"
