the ballad of self inflicted misery

If I could tell you the story
Read you the journal of my life
Could you listen without a judgemental ear
And keep your lips pursed tight
If I could show you everything
And lay all myself out bare
Would you clasp your hand around the fist
I’m shaking in the mirror

You see, once upon a time
I was a boy with dreams and rules
But I grew up far too early
Disillusioned by the truth
Expressionless
And with a hibernating love for all around
I crawled deep inside myself
As childhood withered to the ground

And just like broken glass
Has broke free of its forced form
I’m revealed to you for who I am
And not what I was before
I’ve drawn the energy from the bones
Of the demons I once held close
As I watched them twist and fade
I knew love would lift its curse
