erosion

a still, calm expanse of water
secluded, a tree lined reservoir
a full moons motorcycle lamp sprays
a shotgun blast of white gold over noir

down in its murky fathoms we writhe
aimlessly swimming in the dank cold
with turgid cheeks holding breath
as turbid thoughts cling and grasp, of old

we pass each other as if rain clouds
a bed of silt meets visions mettle
we can scream and shout in quiet here
as our anger and rage is in fine fettle

erosion, the shavings of wood and the filings of iron
we were the personification of its cruel antithesis
erosion, we cloud our own judgement lost in the mire
we are the personification of a forced life in parenthesis

we are truly odd in every sense, cloud grey
two separate jigsaws trying to unify
still swimming in bland tired strokes
we grow heavier as our souls petrify

we’re no longer what we were, at all
unrecognisable from the fresh skin
once worn, now just a worn out cloak
as erosion macerates patience thin

so, know that I love you true and dear
but we together are fused to a fault line
the love we exude is pernicious and vile
it digests all that’s around until joys a grind

we are oil and water, green and red
two opposing forces of opinions, aged
once upon a time we were happy to be led
now, we just make each other enraged
