black sky

falling
as the fingers of time do
like a naked gloveless hand
willing shadows to encroach it, devour it

that’s how we will it
now as all the years pull back
my blue has decayed past blackness
beckoning a foaming heavens relax

I reached for you
you the melting face I and Dali shared
I drew his art for O’level
though in truth I’d never even heard of him or dared

it’s was a mildew life of years later
when I took interest in canvas and not paper
learning both fuel and kill the other with penmanship
where licence splits artistic atoms perched atop the apex of a rapier

dear god your whip is acute precision
these black skies are eating me whole
such oppression and weight and nervousness
my bones crush and crack with breath and broken soul

dear god why give me eyes that can’t see for tears
and this nose that can only sniff out lies
must I dwell in clouds only ever knowing ignorance
was I always born to be my own black sky...?
