Pathways

To future me

Where is it you’re going?
Where are you travl’ing to?
Are your footsteps swift and knowing?
Is your mind clear? Your heart true?
Are deepening cobalt, dusken vales
The ways you will be taking?
Or will sunlit seas and billowed sails
Be chapters in your making?
You trudge and trod on aching feet
‘Neath starry skies, o’er cloudy seas,
Your serpent paths cross crowded streets
And wind through darkest emerald trees.
People drift like spirits,
Pale and phantom apparitions.
They speak, though you don’t hear it,
This is your tale, your volition.
Their songs and laughter, joys and tears
Mean nothing as you wander on.
You have no time for ghosts or fears
You left behind in times forgone.
I hope you reach your journey’s end,
You’ve counted every mile.
But your searching cost you all your friends.
I hope it was worthwhile.
