Limbo

How low can you go

Stuck in this land of limbo
Where the rivers all stand still,
Where wolf and deer are stuck between
Survivor and the kill,
Where sunshine beams with numbing gray
And a breeze is never blowing
And the pain is never deep
But you know you’re never growing,
Where every step is weighed down
And forward becomes backward
Where all your dreams are pointless
And all your hope is fractured,
Where you forget your sense of purpose
And existing is a chore
Where every day seems like the day
Before the day before.
Stuck in this land of limbo
Where the flags are all unfurled
Hatred finds a home here,
It’s welcomed by the world.
Cause we always lose our footing
When we’re up against the dangers
Of the people who aren’t like us,
Of the deadliness of strangers,
And we know we matter most among
Our sisters and our brothers:
That’s why we have to claw and bite
And subjugate each other.
That’s why we do the things we do
And say the things we say,
Cause when you live your life in limbo
You survive or you decay.
