A Compromise

For whoever because.

I made love to an angel
Last night. True, She was
Formless, immaterial,
But I tried my best to please
Her. Or him, I do wonder?
Do the angels have genders?
To question sexual roles
In the wake of a marvel
Is meaningless, I submit.
But the wings, so snowy white,
How beautiful, how downy!
How inconvenient they proved
As we sought in vain to find
New means to be flexible.
Who knew halos were so sharp?
I did not, I swear it! It’s
A lesson I shan’t forget.
How does a lowly mortal
Cause climax to the divine?
The answer, clear, concise, short,
Is that we could not, even
Though my best attempts were spent.
My new lovers cigarettes
Were not alight in triumph.
Will I seek what all men seek?
Pure of heart, light incarnate?
No, no I say! Not I! For
I wish to feel and smell warmth.
I might next be so capsized
By sad fishy mermaids fair.
That is such a compromise
That I find I can live with.
