my heart

your lover should protect your heart like it is the most precious thing in the world to them

it seems like it has slipped away,
and washed up on my lover’s bay.
still heaving from its past decay,
but now we live another day.

i found him by the wooden pole,
so closely tending to my soul.
he held my heart like it was gold,
and now my blood is rushing bold.

i knew it back when we were young,
to his warm arms forever clung.
i trusted him to guard my lung,
and with our mind on love we sung.

he sees me watching from afar,
he calls me over like his star.
returns my heart without the scar,
and once again he’s raised the bar.
