I remember that nightmare, the one I had in your arms.
The one with the man whom I knew.
I remember hearing you
As I was terrified, dreading what was next to come.
Seeing it all before, feeling it, living it.
I heard your sweet voice, hushing what I’m sure were muffled sobs
Calming me as I realized you were still there,
Relieving the pain I felt,
Holding me tight and keeping me safe.
I wish I could have you there, every night.
Making it all go away.
I really could use your help, warmth, comfort.
Maybe then I wouldn’t be dead tired,
And dreading the sleep to come.
Left only to imagine the horrors that will follow.
I cannot wait until we’re ready,
And I can have you by my side
Without having to think of when you’ll leave.
Being there to help you through everything and anything
While just your presence helps me.
