Courage

This poem was written at one of the lowest points in my life.

The crescent of the moon
The light in the sky
The shadow on the ground
Of the lamps standing by
The rustle of the wind
Through the grass and the trees
The coldness it brings to my legs and my knees
I’m out in the cold
All shivered and pale
No clothes to comfort I feel so frail
I’m so alone
Like never before
I feel the whole world has closed their door
I try to shout but no one can hear
I’m stood outside
I’m frozen with fear
His face starts to float
Comes closer to me
His smirk and laugh like he’s filling with glee
I take a deep breath
I look him in the eye
I open my mouth and the words slowly die
What I wanted to say just could not be
I’m not ready yet
I’m still finding me

(2012)

This was written about my abuser; it came from a nightmare I had. He was there.
