Warrior’s Twilight

“To get back to my youth I would do anything in the world, except exercise, get up early, or be respectable.”
~Oscar Wilde

In youth, he strode, a warrior bold
With boundless dreams, no end in sight
A fearless heart, a will of might
Unyielding strength his life foretold

Yet time crept in, its weight to bear
And where he’d soared, he now stood still
A worrier now, at fate’s cruel will
With cautious steps and tempered care

His bones grow weak, his vision fades
Each mighty step a shuffle slow
Age decrees the pace he’ll follow
Once gleaming edge now dulled by shades

Though ravages of age endure
A warrior’s heart remains for sure
