Purple Butterfly

“Butterflies can’t see their wings. They can’t see how truly beautiful they are, but everyone else can. People are like that as well.”
Naya Rivera, American actress

Our butterfly! how she has grown
Eighteen she’ll be, so full of grace
No longer small, no longer known
As just the child with sweetest face

So cute she was, a joy to see
Now blossomed to a lovely belle
A lady strong as bright as she
Heart so pure, she can cast a spell

Soon she’ll leave, see the world so wide
Take her journey to skies unknown
Though far away, she’ll always glide
Her light will shine; a precious stone

We’ll miss her so, but still we know
Her love will stay although she’ll go

Poem dedicated to our granddaughter who will turn 18 in a couple of months. Our butterfly ready to fly and see the world on her own. May the world be a welcoming place for her.
