Behind the Moon

My memories of the 1955 solar eclipse I witnessed as a six year old.

The witches came out at noon
As darkness embraced the land
The sun hid behind the moon
For moments there we all stand

By the seashore in the dune
All barefoot in the wet sand
But daybreak came back too soon
Summoned by a magic wand

So we went home excited
We could have had school instead.

Nice recall…amazing how nature affects our emotions..,real and surreal. So many mythical scary characters in our culture that an event such as a bright day turning into a dark night and all the nocturnal denizens react naturally leaves a kid scared and thinking of aswangs and tiyanaks…kapres…like/thanks Brod…can’t wait for the next total solar eclipse event…watching from Dante’s 9th circle inferno perhaps where I’ll be like in 2044…

@Nelson D Reyes: Thanks for liking Brod. As I said, one of the highlights of my childhood. I got a 2” x 2” glass and I put in a lit candle to create a sooted surface. Created a small circle in the middle. Used that to look at the solar eclipse.

@Introverted Sage: Thank you

@ Michael - Yänariskwa’ / Solitary Mind; Thank you Michael for liking.
