Tis a lovely Texas morning
The playful sun brightly shining
Cumulus clouds westward floating
Hope weather be good till evening
We’re ready with big sombrero
Suntan lotion and whole lot mo’
We even brought some dinero
To Galveston Island we’ll go
Fresher, cooler by the seashore
With the breeze, heat you can ignore
Spellbinding to hear the waves roar
So loud you can’t hear yourself snore

Galveston has a fascinating and storied past: from devastating storms to civil war battles. Before the 1900 storm, Galveston was the second richest city per capita in the United States and was even dubbed the “Wall Street of the South” due to its flourishing banking industry and the retail success of The Strand.
