Author! Author!
If you write with a quill,
ballpoint pen or typewriter,
you’re a lucky soul.
But if you use a computer
and write far better than
Hemingway and Shakespeare
and have years of your work
stored on your computer
and wake up one morning
to find the icon for your
back-up drive is missing
from your desktop, you know
some hack or plagiarist has
climbed through the window
in the middle of the night
and stolen your icon so
you yell and call the police.
They finally arrive,
put you in a straitjacket
and carry you away and
ask that you stop yelling.
They guarantee a reunion
with your lovely icon soon,
saying the two of you can
get married like everyone else
and spend life together
in a very strange way.
And you yell Olé! Olé!
