Too Naive

Lolita

I remember you fancied my accent,
that you could tell I was not from here.
I chuckled nervously, playing with my hands.
You were one of the few who approached me.

I was living in a different country for the first time,
and I already had this crippling loneliness inside,
so I thought having a friend wouldn’t be a bad idea.

You were fourteen years older than me,
at first, you spoke about your hometown,
then you will give me advice on how hard life can be,
but that I always had to remember to remain positive.

I never thought there was something wrong with him.
He was older and wiser, his help was something I needed.
But one day, you asked me at what time I’ll take my break
“both of us can use the company” you whispered.

I was too naive when you took me to your truck,
saying you didn’t like the crowded cafeteria.
I followed your confident steps, as you complimented my eyes.
Once we were inside you came closer to me “I won’t do anything you won’t enjoy”.
You kissed me, and I felt scared. It wasn’t anything sweet, it was the opposite.

I told you to stop, but you would defend yourself saying how breathless you were making me.
But it wasn’t on the way you were thinking, I couldn’t breathe because of how terrified I felt.

And the worst of all is that I had to see your face for months, and you never realized the damage you caused.
You just smiled at me and kept conversing as if nothing had happened.
