Vanilla

Matthew 26:24-28 KJV

Milquetoast existence
A vanilla life
No peaks no valleys
No drama no strife

Nothing to highlight
Even when a youth
Nothing stands out
The unfiltered truth

Quiet life he’s led
But he obeyed rules
Stayed above the fray
Never swayed by fools

He spent what he has
Ne’er owed anyone
Aloof he has stayed
Though he harmed no one

His accomplishments
Few and far between
Nothing noteworthy
To flash on the screen

Handful of milestones
In his earthly stay
Life has passed him by
And he’s old and gray

But not good enough
To exist like so
We must leave a mark
Something we can show

Talents he wasted
Like the third steward
Talents he buried
For him no rewards

Gifts he was given
He failed to use them
Yes, all his talents
Remained uncut gems

Now the end is near
His talents unused
A waste of a life
His purpose confused

Alas! He’ll be judged
Albeit harshly
And all he can do
Pray for clemency!

24 Then he which had received the one talent came and said, Lord, I knew thee that thou art an hard man, reaping where thou hast not sown, and gathering where thou hast not strawed:

25 And I was afraid, and went and hid thy talent in the earth: lo, there thou hast that is thine.

26 His lord answered and said unto him, Thou wicked and slothful servant, thou knewest that I reap where I sowed not, and gather where I have not strawed:

27 Thou oughtest therefore to have put my money to the exchangers, and then at my coming I should have received mine own with usury.

28 Take therefore the talent from him, and give it unto him which hath ten talents.
