Regrets
Yes, a love affair fiery and intense
Overwhelming! it scared him terribly
In an act, arguably made no sense
He broke up with her; cruelly, suddenly!
There’s unutterable sadness in her face
Solitary teardrops fell from her eyes
But her raw emotions remained in place
Not a single word spoken otherwise
She walked away; departed in silence
He never saw nor heard from her again
Since then he has met no one as intense
Now her memory just a sad refrain
For his cruel senseless act so long ago
Alas! what could have been he’ll never know
Vindication
Anger, fury, bitter bile ruled her heart
Humiliated, for she’s head over heels
Still she took it all in; despite the hurt
To mask the abject misery she feels
She went on with life unfazed undeterred
Erased him from memories, or tried to
But nights when only white noise can be heard
The scars in her heart jaded yet still blue
Decades later she found her happiness
Hurt from the past bothers her no longer
A new found love expunged the bitterness
Brought her faith in romance ever stronger
Once in a while she’d recall that sad day
An impish smile gives her feelings away!
