Summer Winds

"Nature is not a place to visit, it is home."
Gary Snyder.

Summer winds
Hot and dry
Bluest skies
Glaring sun
Burning bright
Sweltering
Smoldering
Blistering
Dry parched lips
Sun burnt skin

Dark gray clouds
Gathering
Ominous
Threatening
Buckle up!
Storm brewing!
Lightning flash
Lights the skies
Thunderstorms
Frightening

Starling clouds
Murmuring
Performing
Escadrilles
Acrobats
Dark’ning sky
All creatures
In the woods
Scampering
Looking for
Safe shelters

Then deluge
Suddenly
Sheets of rain
In buckets
Ferocious
Torrential
Relentless
Unceasing
Flood waters
Soon appear

Amber fields
Overwhelmed
Now under
Rising flood
High severe
Evergreens
Elms maples
Tall oak trees
Mere islands
In lagoon

In a flash
The rain stopped
Clouds parted
Pale blue sky
Beautiful
Dew laced leaves
Glistening
In the sun
Like crystals
Shimmering
Majestic
Magical

Flood recedes
Amber fields
Dry once more
Dew on leaves
All that’s left
Green meadows
Verdant still
Wild flowers
Colorful
All in bloom

Butterflies
Birds and bees
Fly once more
The tempest
Forgotten
A rainbow
In the west
O’er the clouds
All is well
Nature sings!
