Stardust

One clear night
I gazed at the heavens
Marveled at the stars
The constellations
The distant galaxies
The moon, Venus and Mars

I wondered about the universe
Its immensity
Its boundless expanse
I stood awe-struck
Feeling puny and trivial
While in a blissful trance

Then I thought about myself
What am I made of?
Carbon and life-giving water
Yes, mostly water
Oxygen and hydrogen
The first element, none other

Hydrogen, the nuclear fuel
Of the sun’s furnace
Of all the stars as they combust
Yet it is within me, part of me
Thus, I am of the universe
I am stardust!!!
