If the skies fall today, am I ready?
If tomorrow comes not, where will I be?
These things I ponder, as I near the end
Though the last page of my book, still unpenned
I hope there’s time to rewrite my story
No conceit, no hubris, no vainglory
An honest reflection on what I’ve done
To leave behind a tale that harms no one
Weight of conscience is heavy on my soul
I seek the strength to make my spirit whole
To heal old wounds and clear the path ahead
That there be none untoward where I tread
I pray I’ve got the time to make changes
To break the chains, free myself from cages
Chance to ask forgiveness and make amends
To mend the broken bonds before life ends
A long life I lived, don’t know where to start
To find the path that leads back to the heart
Perhaps make peace with everyone I love
And seek the grace that shines from up above
But certainly, seek His absolution
Then hope to attain my own salvation

5moIf you don't get to write that book, you will have left behind a great collection of poetry. Nice poem Vic, as usual!

5moI hope you have many many more years to go yet. You have many books to write and plenty of time to prepare yourself for the end.

5mo@Robert L. Martin: Thank you Robert. However, I only used book here as a metaphor for my life. I’m not really writing a book. Don’t have the patience needed to do it.
