Perfectly Right

His and Her Sonnets

I.
The grin on his face borders on laughter
As he tries to stifle feelings within
But the happiness gives his eyes a sheen
Visible amidst the crowd and clutter

His heartbeat quickens, butterflies flutter
Joy, excitement, all emotions between
In a state of giddiness he’s ne’er been
But speak he dares not, fearful he’ll stutter

At the far end of the bar, there she stood
Here among earthborn, goddess in plain sight
Summon his courage, approach her he should
With calm confidence, arrogance not quite
But all this heavy thinking can’t be good
So he walks o’er, it seems perfectly right

II.
Unmindful of the bar scene she stood there
Deep in thought although patiently waiting
It’s been an hour, drink she’s been nursing
Oh, she needs closure, her life’s gone nowhere

He wants to hold on, but she doesn’t care
As usual he’s late, just too frustrating
Her fury simmers close to erupting
If not for the rage, she’d be in despair...

But then, from the far side she sees him come
A more manly specimen, none can find
Her heart skips, must be heaven where he’s from
And if her boyfriend bails, she won’t mind
She smiles at him no longer looking glum
Perfectly right, let the future unwind!
