Break of Day

A Sonnet

It’s oft a struggle between dark and light

When the golden sun sets at eventide

Fearful darkness cloaks the fields, far and wide

Creatures retreat to their lairs for the night

But light reappears, what a lovely sight!

The silv’ry moon goes on its heav’nly ride

To a billion stars, she’s a welcome guide

In the raven sky; points of light shine bright!

So ’tis in our lives, our suns often set

And gloom spreads darkness in our everyday

Life overwhelms and fills us with regret

We pray! We hope troubles will go away!

But after dusk, moonlight comes; don’t forget

To comfort all of us till break of day!

“Black and white are the colors of photography. To me they symbolize the alternatives of hope and despair to which mankind is forever subjected.”
~ Robert Frank
